Christian Kern Who exactly is that?

Ladies and gentlemen... the Man... the Myth... the Legend...

Comic Books

Currently at the age of 31, Christian Kern is many things. First he is a in depth comic book aficionado since the age of 4; knowing just about everything there is to know about comic books in it's many forms; print, television & film as well as merchandising (action figures and such items). Along with his love of the comic genre he has branched out into the realm of comic book retail. Having been a comic book dealer in South Jersey for some time since 2003, Christian has built up a formidable inventory by absorbing all the local business with had folded. Starting in 2003 with his acquisition of the Superhero City collection as well as many other private collections that have come onto the market. His second passion is that of Role Playing Games (RPGs). Having played D&D since the age of 7, Christian has found many games to his interest both challenging his mind and creativity. Such favorites are Dead Lands, Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade, Marvel Superheroes, DC Heroes and of course Dungeons and Dragons the old mainstay of classic gaming.

It wasn't until 2009, Christian had finally decided to write. Having written heavily in high school; Christian would submit many story springboards to DC, Marvel and Valiant Comics. In 1994, his freshman year of high school Christian almost sold a 'Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter' script to Valiant Comics while it was under the editorial control of Bob Layton and Jon Hartz, however the acquisition of Valiant by Acclaim Entertainment had put an end to the negotiations due to Acclaim's freeze on hiring outside beginning talent. Also in that same year, Christian had sold a script to Defiant Comics which was the short lived comic company run by his idol, Jim Shooter. The bankruptcy of Defiant Comics meant even though he was paid, Christian would never see his work (A War Dancer back up story) published.

Live Action Call of Cthulhu

When 1995 rolled around, Christian was entering into his senior year of high school. Due to his past relationship with Defiant Comics, Christian was invited to submit to Jim Shooter's then second attempt at an independent company, Broadway Comics. That summer, having attended a Shooter hosted Broadway Comics panel at the '95 Comic Fest in Philadelphia, Christian found his niche in Broadway Comics with Knights on Broadway. However when the company folded due to lack of funds when Golden Books had acquired the ownership of the defunct comic company. Nothing came of his 'Knights on Broadway' proposal.

In 1997 it had been announced Peter David was leaving the Incredible Hulk after more than 10 years at the helm of writing that comic. Christian had contacted Marvel Comics and after being most persistent had convinced then Incredible Hulk Editor, Bobbi Chase to look at a proposal. Of course Christian one of many in line to replace David on this book. In the end he was one of sixty to loose out to Paul Jenkins.

Role Playing

These obstacles had led Christian to cease writing for comic books and turn his attentions elsewhere. His love of the horror genre had lead him to discover a LARP (Live Action Role Playing) troupe in 1998. The game was Call of Cthulhu and the group was named PST (Pants Shitting Terror) Productions. His first game, Christian participated as a player; the story was called Blow Out the Candles. He was so enthralled with the event he joined the group and went on to help write many more stories; such as 'Point of View', 'Our Town', 'The Auction' (Which saw print in the Cthulhu Live Second Edition book under the credit, PST Productions) and 'Goth Opera'. Most of these tales will be detailed further on various pages of Christian Kern.com.

Currently Christian is working on a few film & teleplay scripts, comic submissions, polishing up a novel and dealing with the pains of impending married life. Christian Lives in South Jersey along with his girlfriend Erin who helped him land a literary agent, designed this web site and pushed him to the creative point he is at now.

Mad Monk Publishing

After his first comic book business, Area 51 Comics, Christian changed the name to Championship Comics in 2007 more or less as a personal reference. Along that time in 2008, Christian started Mad Monk Publishing. Mad Monk Publishing is a publishing company set on publishing RPGs (Role Playing Games) based on the D20 Open Game License (OGL) written by some of the best beginning talent in the game industry. Mad Monk has three games currently under development; Heroes & Martyrs which is a Superhero RPG. An as yet unnamed fantasy setting and a horror based rpg called Exillion.
